In Composition Workshop week 4 we were informed of the Performance week/s starting as of next week, as well student's playing music and talking about there pieces in detail.
We found out that there will be performances running through the next week, from students, lecturers and also composers outside of the Waapa department.
A piece was performed was written based on Stravinsky's polyrythmic ideas. All the sounds written and arranged into the piece were sampled from a sample library. At a point in the piece a plucking started which sounded almost acoustic but after the piece was finished Tim (Composer) told us that it was a sound he'd sourced from a library and had manipulated it to the point where it sounded almost organic.
Josh Blackwell, was another composer who played a piece for us today. His writing style was more of a jazz orientation stating influences such as Pet Matheny and Steve Reich, which shone through. The sound on the recording were all performed by the composer himself, which was very impressive! It started with a guitar loop that was incorporated through the whole peice, accompanied by drums, bass, Rhodes keyboard sound and reverb drowned vocals.
