In Fall 2016 Tim undertook an Exchange program at the University of Calgary, Alberta in Canada.
There he studied under Professor Allan Bell who was traditional with his approach to composition. It gave Tim a great insight in harmony counterpoint, and development of motivic and thematic material. The class sizes were 6 students so every class each student would have their work scrutinised and analysed by their peers and also the professor.
During his time there Tim composed two works Discontinuity for Flute and piano - performed by Fiona Kuhn on Flute and Joel Parker on Piano and A Way Away for String Trio performed by Christine Chen on Violin, Janet Leahy on Viola and Tyuler Stweart on Cello.

This was a great opportunity to focus on the composition of chamber music.
